War Of The Worlds (2005)

Language:The lettering is in a bright red which connotes blood, fear and death. This shows that the film may be about death. Furthermore, you can identify that this is a poster for a movie as there is the billing block at the bottom. A billing block is the list of people who helped create the film for example the director. The use of the tag line 'They're already here' shows that this is a movie about some sort of invasion or war.

Institution: Steven Spielberg is a well known director so from knowing that he was the director of this film, you can connote that there is going to be many action scenes or jumping scenes in the movie as that is what he is well associated with.

Audience: This film looks like it would be targeted at both genders but mostly men as the main character is a man (Tom Cruise). Furthermore, the movie is based on an alien invasion (which is clearly seen in the poster) shows that this film is mostly aimed at men because men are the type that like the alien invasion sub-genre more than women. I think that this would be more appropriate to watch by ages 15+ as children may not like alien invasions as they get petrified. Furthermore I suggest this to ages 15+ as they are the ages that will mostly like the alien invasion sub-genre.

Representation: The centre picture shows earth being held by some sort of alien hand which has some sort of red roots which looks like it is extending and moving towards earth which shows that this movie is based on an alien invasion. Moreover, around the centre picture is all back which shows darkness and darkness is usually connoted as the end of something or horror which could also be one of the sub-genres.
